Why the audiobook wins
Doug Ordunio has narrated Diamond's major books, and the steadiness is the point: this is an argument built across thirteen thousand years and four continents, and it needs a reader who can carry a long chain of reasoning without dramatizing it. Ordunio never editorializes, which leaves the thesis to stand or fall on its own.
Diamond writes in clearly signposted stages — geography, then domestication, then technology, then the collisions — so the book breaks cleanly across commutes without losing the thread. Sixteen hours is substantial, and the structure means you always know which step of the argument you are on.
One Audible credit gets the whole case. It remains one of the most argued-over books in popular history, and hearing it laid out in sequence is a good way to work out where you actually disagree.
