Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow Audiobook— narrated by Derek Perkins

14 hr 54 min

Yuval Noah Harari follows Sapiens by asking what humanity does once famine, plague, and war stop setting the agenda. Homo Deus argues that the next projects are immortality, engineered happiness, and godlike power, and that the sciences delivering them will steadily dissolve the sovereign inner self that modern politics assumes.

Why the audiobook wins

Derek Perkins read Sapiens and he reads this one, so the two books run together in audio the way Harari plainly means them to. If you listened to the first, the second opens in a voice you already associate with the argument. That matters more than it should for a book that spends two hundred pages retracing ground Sapiens already covered.

Perkins suits the material for the same reason he suited Sapiens. He delivers declarative prose without adding drama to it, and Harari's most provocative claims land better read flat than sold. The chapter on domesticated animals and the one on intelligence separating from consciousness are the two worth rewinding.

Just under fifteen hours, from the taming of famine to the data religion. One Audible credit.
