Greenlights Audiobook by Matthew McConaughey— narrated by Matthew McConaughey
Greenlights is Matthew McConaughey's memoir and life guide, built from 35 years of diaries kept while he tried to work out what makes a life go well. He covers his East Texas childhood, his acting career and his family, and argues for treating obstacles as signals to adjust to rather than walls to fight.
Why the audiobook wins
Matthew McConaughey reads his own memoir. The prose has a slangy, colorful voice, with invented plurals and rolled-together words, and it suits being read aloud. At its best it plays like a friend telling you about a long trip.
At just under seven hours, it fits a road trip or a week of commutes. It is built from thirty-five years of his diaries, so it comes as stories, poems, prayers and short maxims, and you can dip in at any point. He is candid about his mistakes and about family trouble, and the book is a memoir first and a guide second.
One Audible credit covers the whole book.
