We Solve Murders is a globe-hopping cozy mystery that runs on charm and never loses its nerve.
Why the audiobook wins
Richard Osman's comedy runs on timing, and Nicola Walker has it. She reads Steve Wheeler flat and unhurried, the way a man who has decided nothing more will ever happen to him ought to sound, then switches into Rosie D'Antonio and lets the volume up. One narrator, four continents, and the voices never blur.
The chapters run three or four pages, which makes this an unusually forgiving listen. A stopping point is always about to arrive. Osman's jokes also land better spoken than they do on the page, where a setup sits there waiting to be read at the wrong speed.
If you came to Osman through the Thursday Murder Club recordings, expect a different reader and a different register here: less village warmth, more forward motion. Walker keeps the comedy dry and the plot legible even while the money is crossing borders. Ten hours and thirty-two minutes, one Audible credit.
