Don Tillman narrates his own disastrous, wonderful courtship in the first person, and that voice is the whole trick of this book: precise, literal, allergic to subtext. Dan O'Grady plays it dead straight, never winking at the joke, which is exactly why it lands. You get Don's rigid logic delivered with total sincerity, so every collision with Rosie's chaos becomes funnier for the deadpan.
This is the kind of audiobook that makes a commute disappear. Don's clipped, list-making cadence turns natural comic rhythm into something even sharper read aloud than on the page, and O'Grady's control of that voice, never overplaying the character's obliviousness, keeps the romance from tipping into farce.
