Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion Audiobook— narrated by Robert B. Cialdini
Robert Cialdini spent three years undercover in sales, fundraising, and telemarketing to find out why people say yes. Influence is the report: seven levers, each with the study behind it and a short section on refusing it. The 2021 edition adds unity, the principle about shared identity, and a great many pages.
Why the audiobook wins
Robert Cialdini narrates the expanded edition himself, and for a book about persuasion there is something useful about hearing the author do the persuading. He is not a professional reader, and the slight unpolish works in his favor: the compliance-professional anecdotes land as things he actually went and observed rather than as case studies.
Twenty and a half hours covers the seven principles with the newer unity chapter and the updated research. Each principle is self-contained, which makes this a good book to take one section at a time on a commute rather than straight through.
One Audible credit gets the full expanded edition in the author's voice. If you only know the six principles secondhand from marketing blogs, the original is considerably more careful than its reputation.
