This is the full-cast Chamber of Secrets, with a company of more than a hundred actors rather than one narrator doing every voice. Hugh Laurie, Matthew Macfadyen, Kit Harington, Riz Ahmed, Cush Jumbo, Simon Pegg and Indira Varma are among the names on the credits, and the production carries sound design behind them: the pipes in the walls, the Whomping Willow, the diary.
Book two is the one that rewards that treatment most. A monster nobody can see is petrifying students, and an enchanted diary answers back in writing. Both of those are sound problems on the page and solved problems in a recording.
It runs about nine and a half hours, which is a couple of commutes plus a Sunday. If you have only ever met Hogwarts on the page or on screen, this is the third version. One Audible credit covers it.
