Gathering Blue (Giver Quartet, Book 2) Audiobook— narrated by Katherine Borowitz

5 hr 27 min

Lois Lowry follows The Giver with Gathering Blue, a slower, harder dystopia about an orphaned, disabled girl whose gift for weaving thread into story might be the only thing keeping her alive in a village that discards anyone it sees as broken.

Why the audiobook wins

Gathering Blue is five and a half hours, which makes it the easiest entry point in the Giver quartet and a genuinely good single-sitting listen. Katherine Borowitz reads Kira plainly, without pity, which is the only way this book survives its own premise: a village that discards anyone it decides is broken, and an orphaned girl with a damaged leg who is kept alive because she can weave.

Lowry writes sparely, and sparse prose read aloud has nowhere to hide. Borowitz lets the silences sit, particularly around what the village is not saying about the fields and the beasts, and the reveal arrives without ever being underlined.

Five and a half hours, one thread, one story being woven into it. One Audible credit covers the recording.
