Why the audiobook wins
Blightfall runs on two voices, and that is the right call for a book with two pilots in the cockpit. Eddie Lopez takes Arturo, all clipped command discipline with the self-doubt leaking through underneath, while Suzy Jackson handles Sadie at a completely different tempo, faster and funnier and much less sure she belongs there. Splitting them the way Listening Library has means you always know whose head you are in without a chapter heading telling you.
Then there are the taynix chapters. The teleporting slugs get their own interludes, and a narrator performing a creature whose entire worldview is snacks, snuggles and a wish that everybody would get along is exactly the kind of thing that works better spoken than printed. It is the moment in the download where most listeners stop multitasking and just grin.
Fifteen hours, unabridged, and the dogfights move fast enough that the drive to work disappears under them. One Audible credit gets you the whole flight, the whole planet, and the slugs.
