Kinsey Millhone narrates her own cases in first person, in the form of written reports, so the alphabet novels have always been half spoken already. Mary Peiffer reads her dry and unimpressed, which is the correct Kinsey: a woman who lives in a converted garage, cuts her own hair, and treats a routine missing-person job as a routine missing-person job right up until two people are dead.
Seven and a half hours is a short, clean listen and a good place to start the series if A did not grab you. Grafton was building the template most modern female PI novels still run on, and the second book is where the voice locks in.
