Scott Brick reads Jurassic Park, and Brick's particular gift is making technical exposition sound like a warning. Crichton's novel is stuffed with chaos theory, genetics and systems failure, the material the film mostly cut, and in Brick's delivery it is not a lecture. It is the sound of engineers explaining, quite calmly, why the park is already lost.
That changes the book. If you know the movie, you know a summer adventure. The novel is a corporate autopsy with a much higher body count and a much meaner streak, and fifteen hours of Brick's steady, measured register lets the dread build the way Crichton wrote it rather than the way Spielberg staged it.
