This novella runs on banter, and a dual narration from Dara Rosenberg and David Bendena gives Ada Lamarr and her reluctant captor the kind of crackling back-and-forth a single reader couldn't fake. Rosenberg's Ada is fast-talking and a little desperate under the bravado, while Bendena keeps the ship's commander dry and suspicious, and the two voices play off each other like the trapped-together thriller this is.
At just over four hours, it's built for a single sitting, a lunch break or a short flight, and the two-hander format keeps the claustrophobic, one-ship setting from ever feeling static. Every scene is a negotiation between two people who don't trust each other yet can't stop talking, and hearing that tension performed rather than described is the whole appeal.
Revis keeps the story tight and the leads worth listening to for four hours straight. It's a quick, satisfying binge, and one credit is all it costs to find out if Ada talks her way out alive.
