Adversary to the Villain Audiobook— narrated by Em Eldridge
In Hannah Nicole Maehrer's Adversary to the Villain, the fourth Assistant and the Villain book, Evie Sage gets promoted into her own prophecy: apparently she's the new adversary, whether she applied or not. This cozy fantasy romantic comedy stays exactly as funny as its office-memo premise promises, with a boss who has very unprofessional feelings about which side she's on.
Why the audiobook wins
Em Eldridge narrates a book that runs on voice. It is humor-forward, closer to workplace comedy laid over a fantasy kingdom, with Evie's resistance to the villain label and her boss's very unprofessional devotion carrying most of the jokes. A performance with good comic timing has plenty to work with.
This is the fourth Assistant and the Villain book, so it suits listeners who are already caught up with the series. The pace is light and escalating, with a prophecy and an artifact race driving things, which makes it easy to follow on a commute or during chores.
It points toward a concluding volume instead of resolving everything here. One Audible credit covers the whole book.
